Colin Gershon: District Governor 2009-10

Colin Gershon has been a member of the New Haven Rotary Club since 1982.  He was recognized as New Member of the Year in 1982 and later served as Club Secretary and Club Treasurer.  He was Club President in 1999-2000.  In 2004, he was received the Roy A. Michaels Award as the Club's Outstanding Rotarian. 

On the District Level, Colin was District Community Service Chair between 2001 and 2004 and Assistant Governor for Area 6 between 2004 and 2007.  He assisted in the establishment of the District Foundation in 2001 and has served as its secretary since its inception.  He has served on the District Interact Committee and currently chairs the District Rotaract Committee and the District Significant Achievement Awards Committee.  He was honored with the Donald A. Adams Outstanding Rotarian Award at the 2004 District Conference.  Colin is a Rotary Leadership Institute graduate and has served as a facilitator at Northeast PETS.

Born in Keighly, England, Colin grew up in Port Washington and Shelter Island, New York.  he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history form Colgate University, a law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he wrote for its law review, and a Master of Laws in Taxation degree form New York University.

Colin served at the U.S. Navy Law Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on active duty as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy JAG Corps between 1972 and 1976.

Colin is an attorney concentrating in trusts and estates law.  He is a member of the Estate and Probate Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.

Colin has served on the board of directors of the South Central Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Connecticut Children's Museum, and the St. Raphael (Hospital) Foundation.  He was the chair of the Troop Committee of Boy Troop 428 in Branford from 1996 to 1999.  He has served as moderator and on numerous committees of the First Congregational Church of Branford.  He is a trustee (and former President) of the James Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford.

Colin and his wife, Millicent, married in 1972, reside in Branford and have three sons.  Eric is a journalist; Colin Andrew (a former Peace Corps volunteer in Kenya) is pursuing a career in public health; and Tim is a teacher.
